Village blacksmith Janne Marttiini started making wrought iron products in Lapland almost a hundred years ago. His knives have since achieved world fame. Ilkka Marttiini Oy launched its first Paja product range in 2008. The name of the Paja range reflects the history of the company and the philosophy behind the products. The design and styling of Paja products are strongly based on Finnishness, tradition, and modernity. Ilkka Marttiini Oy's unique, hand-forged utensils differ in shape from traditional blacksmith products. The simplistic design of a Finnish designer and the functionality tailored by the blacksmith speak the same ancient language as Janne Marttiini's northern tradition. The designer's controlled handprint emphasizes the beauty of strong, forged steel. The blacksmith himself personally stamps each Ilkka Marttiini product he makes.
