Timex started its business in 1854 in the city of Waterbury as the Waterbury Clock Company. There it was decided that it is equally important to concentrate on the production planning that creates the conditions for a good final product. Then in 1914, an idea was born that revolutionized the clock market: put a strap on the watch. After that, no one carried watches in their pockets and wristwatches started to be produced in large quantities. By the end of the 1950s, every third watch sold in the United States was a Timex watch. Watch designers of the time developed the precursor to today's sports watches and many other useful inventions, such as the Indiglo light. Timex has been one of the pioneers in wristwatch design and watchmaking.
